Dr. Sam Amadi, the former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip to Europe for a ten-day working vacation.
Amadi contends that the journey demonstrates a lack of the necessary stamina required for the demanding role of the Nigerian presidency.
The Presidency had announced the trip in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
It indicated that President Tinubu departed Abuja on September 4th and would spend his 2025 annual leave divided between France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria.
In a post on the social media platform X, Amadi expressed his disapproval, suggesting that the president’s actions are inadvertently building a case against his own re-election.
He argued that the extensive vacation signals an inability to endure the relentless pressures and hard work inherent to leading Africa’s most populous nation. Amadi’s critique implies that the frequency or length of such breaks is unbecoming of a sitting president, especially one facing a crucial election.
This criticism comes amid ongoing national challenges, implying a perception gap between the president’s activities and the public’s expectations of constant engagement.
Amadi concluded that the president appears to require a significant amount of rest, a trait he deems incompatible with the vigorous demands of the office. The remarks have sparked further debate regarding executive capacity and leadership endurance.
