The Anambra State Government has approved several multi-billion-naira contracts aimed at tackling erosion and improving public infrastructure across the state. The projects, which are part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration’s commitment to sustainable development, will address critical environmental and infrastructural challenges in various communities.
Key among the approved contracts is the construction and rehabilitation of erosion control systems in erosion-prone areas, particularly in Aguata, Nnewi, and Ogbaru local government areas.
These measures are expected to mitigate the devastating effects of gully erosion, which has displaced residents and damaged properties in the past. Additionally, the government has allocated funds for road construction, drainage systems, and other public infrastructure upgrades to enhance connectivity and economic activities.
Governor Soludo emphasised that the projects align with his administration’s broader agenda of building a livable and prosperous Anambra State. He assured residents that the contracts would be executed with transparency and efficiency, urging contractors to adhere to high-quality standards and timely delivery.
The state commissioner for works, Ifeanyi Okoma, provided details on the scope of the projects, noting that they were carefully selected based on community needs and expert assessments. He also highlighted the government’s partnership with federal agencies and development organisations to ensure the sustainability of the interventions.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the projects will bring lasting solutions to environmental degradation and improve overall living conditions. The approval of these contracts marks a significant step in Anambra’s efforts to combat erosion and boost infrastructural development.
