The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured decisive victories in Saturday’s by-elections across Kaduna State, winning both the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency seat and two state assembly positions.
In the federal constituency race, APC candidate Felix Bagudu emerged victorious with 34,580 votes, defeating Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contender Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, who garnered 11,491 votes.
The results were officially declared on Sunday by INEC’s returning officer, Abubakar Mohammed Jumare.
The ruling party extended its dominance to state assembly contests, capturing both the Zaria Kewaye and Basawa constituency seats. In Basawa, APC’s Dahiru Umar-Sani polled 10,996 votes against PDP’s Muazu Danyaro (5,499 votes), while Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Danbala Usman trailed with 811 votes.
The Zaria Kewaye constituency saw APC’s Isa Mohammed secure a landslide victory with 26,613 votes, overwhelming SDP’s Nuhu Muazu (5,721 votes) and PDP’s Mahmud Wappa (5,331 votes).
These results consolidate the APC’s political control in Kaduna State following vacancies created by previous officeholders. Election observers reported peaceful voting processes across the constituencies, with INEC officials commending voter turnout and conduct. The victories position the APC favourably ahead of future elections in the state, while opposition parties are expected to review their strategies after the significant vote margins.
