In a heartfelt open letter, Nollywood filmmaker Austin Faani has reached out to actor Yul Edochie, expressing his concern over the continuous disparaging remarks made about him on social media.
Drawing from his personal experience, Faani shared how he had faced a similar situation that led to severe health issues, emphasizing the toll such online negativity can take on one’s mental health.
In the letter posted on social media, Faani disclosed that insults and audacious comments had pushed him to the brink, causing high blood pressure, palpitations, and ultimately, depression. He conveyed his empathy to Yul Edochie and urged him to share how he, his former wife May, and his new wife Judy Austin were coping emotionally.
Faani pleaded for an end to the insults and trolling, highlighting the human aspect of public figures and the toll it takes on their mental well-being. He called on Nigerians to cease the endless cycle of insults and to respect the decisions made by individuals in the public eye.
The filmmaker emphasized the humanizing element, reminding everyone that Yul, May, and Judy are also human beings with feelings. Faani encouraged a collective effort to move beyond the controversies and respect the choices made by those involved.
Quoting one of his favorite sayings, Faani ended the letter with a powerful message:
YOU ARE FREE TO CHOOSE, BUT YOU ARE NOT FREE FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR CHOICE.”
