Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has announced new steps to improve customer service and maintain high environmental standards at Nigerian airports.
According to a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, the activities are intended to satisfy the expectations of travellers across the country.
He stated that the steps include the deployment of volunteer Special Airport Marshals who would perform surprise airport inspections.
According to him, the Marshals, who will include reputable media members, non-governmental organizations, and state officials, would conduct impartial inspections of airport conditions, cleanliness, and personnel behaviour and report directly to the Minister.
The statement said that Minister Keyamo will oversee unscheduled airport inspections countrywide, accompanied by top Ministry and FAAN personnel.
It stated that the visits will include hands-on involvement in airport operations as well as direct engagement with personnel, emphasizing the significance of professional behaviour and quality service.
The Ministry will also confer with stakeholders in the coming weeks to choose qualified volunteers for the Special Airport Marshal program, with the final list of appointments to be made public for transparency.
According to the statement:
“The Minister, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, will appoint voluntary Special Airport Marshals who are resident in cities where airports are located. These Marshals, comprising public-spirited individuals drawn from members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and representatives of State Governors, will conduct unscheduled visits to the airports. Their role will be to monitor staff conduct and assess the general hygiene and conditions of the airports.
“The voluntary Special Airport Marshals shall report directly to the Minister, who will issue necessary directives to FAAN based on their findings.”
