Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has shed light on his recent invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of Naira abuse.
In a detailed Instagram post, AY clarified that the anti-graft agency summoned him regarding the public spraying of local and foreign currencies, which is considered an offence under Nigerian law. Following investigations, the EFCC confirmed that the money he sprayed was not linked to criminal proceeds or illicit funds, granting him a pardon.
AY urged Nigerians to understand that practices such as spraying, defacing, or mishandling the Naira, although culturally ingrained, are legal violations that undermine the currency’s integrity.
I am grateful to God for His mercy and guidance,” AY began.
He expressed appreciation to the EFCC for their fair handling of the situation and used the opportunity to emphasize the importance of respecting the Naira, calling for a collective effort to promote its dignity.
The comedian also attached slides to his post, highlighting proper practices regarding currency use. He encouraged Nigerians to foster a culture of integrity and patriotism by avoiding actions that could compromise the value of the Naira.
