The Lagos State Government has destroyed 1,508 seized motorbikes known as “Okada” for violating state traffic regulations.

The activity was carried out on Monday, at the Crush Plant, Taskforce Yard, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, by the state government’s Ministry of Transportation.

The group that oversaw the operation was led by the Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Wale Musa.

Osiyemi told reporters that over 1,500 motorbikes confiscated in the previous six months were earmarked for crushing as part of the zero-tolerance policy for unlawful activity.

The commissioner also urged okada users to embrace the various other forms of transportation given by the government, noting that the city was planning to add more First and Last Mile buses.

“I urge the riders to continue to stay off the roads because the crushing exercise and enforcement will be sustained.

“There is no going back because it’s government policy and the government does not joke about its decisions,” he said.
