Federal High Court in Abuja has given the Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA, permission to detain the President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Bello Bodejo, and six others for 60 days to investigate charges of banditry and illegal arms ownership.
Justice Emeka Nwite granted the detention in response to an ex parte application submitted by DIA attorney I.O. Odom. The case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1875/V/2024 requested a two-month detention period to allow for a comprehensive investigation.
Bodejo, Suleiman Abba, Umar Jibrin, Umar Bello, Muhammed Ayuba, Jibrin Baba, and Saidu Wakili are among the suspects seized in Nasarawa State on December 11.
They were taken to DIA custody following their detention by Nigerian Armed Forces forces.
According to an affidavit provided by DIA investigator Bonny Ozegbe, the accused took part in an attack on a military facility in Nasarawa State. The attack, apparently planned by Bodejo, resulted in casualties to troops and civilians, the theft of military weapons, and severe devastation.
AK-47 firearms and ammo were recovered from the suspects. The affidavit also referenced continuing efforts to apprehend more conspirators.
“Releasing the suspects could jeopardise the investigation and pose a serious threat to national security,” Ozegbe said.
Justice Nwite approved the motion, allowing DIA custody of the suspects until March 3, 2025, when the matter will be discussed.
Also, Justice Mohammed Zubairu of the FCT High Court ordered the release of Miyetti Allah president, from the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, ruling that his previous incarceration without charge was unconstitutional.
