Barcelona Contemplates Clasico Replay Amid VAR Controversy

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has sparked controversy following his comments after Barcelona’s defeat to Real Madrid, suggesting that the club may seek a replay of the Clasico due to a disputed refereeing decision. Laporta’s frustration stemmed from a disallowed goal by Lamine Yamal, which he labeled a “ghost goal” and criticized the abuse of VAR.

The contentious moment occurred in the first half when Yamal’s effort appeared to cross the line, only for the absence of goal-line technology to leave the decision inconclusive.

In a four-minute tirade, Laporta demanded a thorough review of the incident and vowed to approach the Technical Committee of Referees and the Spanish Football Federation for access to all relevant footage.

Laporta’s threat of a potential replay echoed sentiments expressed in the aftermath of similar incidents in European competitions. Barcelona’s immediate focus lies on their upcoming La Liga fixture against Valencia, but their pursuit of justice in the Clasico controversy looms large over their next steps.
