The Bauchi State Government has implemented a ban on all farming and grazing activities within the premises of the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport (SATBIA) as part of efforts to bolster security measures.

This decision was announced during a security and stakeholders’ meeting held at the airport.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Housing, Engr. Mohammad Hamisu Garba stated that the directive aligns with Governor Bala Mohammed’s commitment to strengthening the airport’s security infrastructure and preventing unauthorised access.

To support this initiative, seven surveillance personnel have been deployed from nearby communities to collaborate with airport authorities. Their responsibilities include monitoring activities, reporting suspicious behaviour, and preventing acts of vandalism.

Engr. Garba highlighted the recent successful airlift of 2025 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia from the airport as evidence of its operational readiness and the importance of maintaining its security. He called upon traditional leaders, those grazing and farmers to assist in raising awareness and mobilising community support to safeguard the facility.

Additionally, the SATBIA General Manager, Surveyor Babagana Muhammad Tata, revealed that the airport had experienced recent sabotage incidents.

He advocated for a comprehensive overhaul of the airport’s security strategy and appealed to surrounding communities to take ownership of the facility’s protection.
