Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, underlined the need to hold a legitimate local government election to serve as a model for Nigeria. He made the charge while taking the oath of office for the chairman and members of the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission and the State Civil Service Commission.

Perekiye Buruboyefe, a former sports and youth development commissioner, leads the State Civil Service Commission.

On Wednesday, the ceremony was held at the Government House in Yenagoa.

Gov Diri also charged the commission with exercising independence in its mandate.

Peter Singable, the former chairman of the state civil service commission. Currently leads the BYSIEC, which also includes Elliot Osomu and Mary John.

According to Gov Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the governor also swore in the state’s Auditor-General. Tarimotimi Dounana and his local government counterpart, Fagha Prenanagha. As well as a state judicial service commission member, Ogidi-Oke Ayibakuro.

Diri stated that the appointments were made based on merit and the individuals’ track record of accomplishments.

The governor stated, “For all of those sworn in, you are not new to governance. So I have very little to say. You had performed creditably and we did not want to make any mistakes. So we took our time to make the appointments.”
