Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has accused certain serving politicians in the National Assembly of sponsoring and facilitating attacks on communities across the state.
In an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today,’ Governor Alia stated that these individuals are not only encouraging violence but are also directly aiding the attackers with logistical support.
Governor Alia said that an interim report from a judicial panel he established has identified some of these politicians as complicit in the ongoing violence.
According to him, the attackers are being harboured and supplied by these political figures, who he claims are trying to destabilise the state for their own gain. He described this behaviour as extremely unacceptable and promised to take strong action once the full report is submitted in the coming week.
These allegations come in the wake of renewed violence in Benue, including a deadly attack along the Makurdi–Naka road, which left several people dead. The governor noted that these incidents are not isolated, but rather part of a coordinated campaign to spread fear and disrupt peace in the state.
Governor Alia emphasised his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He urged the public to remain united and vigilant while assuring them that justice would be served. His remarks have drawn attention to the political undercurrents fueling insecurity in the region and have sparked calls for accountability and immediate government intervention to address the situation.
