Three people, including a police officer and two other victims. Were reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday near the Ahume end of the Naka/Makurdi Road in Benue State.
It was learned that the victims were returning from a funeral service when the suspects attacked them on the motorway at approximately 4 o’clock and took them to an unidentified location.
It was discovered that the suspects contacted the victims’ families and requested an N1.7 million ransom after the kidnapping.
The event was verified on Wednesday by Andrew Ayande. The chairman of the Gwer West Local Government Area, also noted that the neighborhood has a history of crime.
According to Ayande, “This incident happened on Tuesday; we lost one prominent person around the place on Monday and they took the corpse home on Tuesday. The people (hoodlums) came as usual and they attacked the people in one of the vehicles.
“A policeman and two others were kidnapped around 4 pm at Ahume, Naka/Makurdi Road, and the vehicle the victims were in has been taken to Naka Police Station.”
When asked if the kidnappers had been in touch with the victims’ families, the chairman said, “The abductors were demanding N200,000 from the family of the police, N1m from the woman and they also demanded N500,000 from the other victim.”
Meanwhile, Catherine Anene, the state police public relations officer, stated that she had not yet received the complaint when contacted.
