Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Governor of Benue State promised the state’s youths on Friday that things will get better for them.
The governor made the guarantee while speaking to young people at the Wurukum roundabout in Makurdi, the state capital, on his way back from the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
Some youths, predominantly on motorcycles, packed the Food Basket roundabout in Makurdi on Friday, causing a scuffle between traffic cops and Nigerian Army troops.
Governor Alia made a quick stoppage to calm the atmosphere before speaking to the young and assuring them of deliberate plans to provide jobs and involve them in sustainable initiatives that would benefit them and the Benue society.
He underlined the need for youth empowerment via technical education and training for long-term development.
The governor also warned security forces against using violence and violating human rights, noting that motorcyclists in the state should always preserve peace and order and that security agents should not harass or harm any Benue person who works in an appropriate manner to make a livelihood.
He recognised the state’s difficulties and promised them that things would soon improve.
