Biafra activist, Dr Ngozi Orabueze has claimed that European nations’ pursuit of oil resources is driving persistent insecurity and violence in Nigeria’s South-East region.
Orabueze, who serves as the Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Staff of the United States of Biafra, made the allegation in a statement via her X handle on Thursday.
Her remarks follow Nigeria’s recent signing of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline deal, which aims to transport billions of cubic meters of gas over 4,128 kilometres from Nigeria through Niger to Algeria and then to Italy via the Mediterranean pipeline, Transmed.
Reacting to the development, Orabueze alleged that the insecurity and heavy military presence in the South-East were part of efforts to control resource-rich areas.
She argued that the region’s oil and gas reserves had drawn international interest, leading to what she described as a forceful occupation.
“Europe’s quest for oil in Biafraland is the major reason for the continued invasion, killings, and occupation of a sovereign state, the United States of Biafra, by Nigeria,” she claimed.
Orabueze warned that Biafrans would resist further encroachment, urging the Nigerian government to withdraw from the region.
“This invasion and occupation will become resisted, and Biafrans must defend themselves and their land. Nigeria is mandated to leave the Biafra nation,” she added.
