Nigerian actress Bimbo Ademoye recently took to social media to share her concerns and advice for parents regarding the importance of safeguarding and closely monitoring their children.

In her heartfelt post, Bimbo highlighted the increasing need for parents to be vigilant in today’s world, drawing parallels to a movie she previously produced, “Shining Star.”

Bimbo Ademoye wrote:

Posted this on my story and thought to bring it on here. Saw this on @lindaikejiblogofficial and got a number of tags from people saying it reminded them of ‘SHINING STAR’.

I was shocked I won’t lie. I remember when ‘Shining Star’ aired, I got a number of backlash on how the movie wasn’t ‘realistic.’ Some said it didn’t ‘make sense,’ storyline no follow, how would an 11-year-old boy hide a body, how would he even think about it.

Someone even said Lopeda talked too much. As in, a 12-year-old talked too much. A number of people didn’t like it because it wasn’t happily ever after.

Some even said there’s no way it could have been a true life story. Anyways, a large number of people could relate, single parents, kids who had been abused by their parents, kids who had been abused by relatives who are now adults but still live with the trauma.

Multiple mothers reached out to me and told me how the film touched them. YouTube limited monetization and views. In all, I’m so grateful for you guys, ALL opinions are more than welcome (yes! Even criticisms too. We can always agree to disagree). Dear parents, PLEASE, be very watchful and very present. You have no idea what your kids are seeing, watching or hearing. The world is in a different place today, be vigilant! A ku Monday o.”

Bimbo Ademoye’s movie “Shining Star” received mixed reactions upon its release. Critics questioned the realism of the storyline, particularly the depiction of an 11-year-old boy hiding a body and the behaviors of a 12-year-old character, Lopeda. Despite the criticisms, the movie resonated deeply with many viewers, especially those who had experienced or understood the trauma of abuse.

In her post, Bimbo Ademoye drew attention to a recent case that shared similarities with the storyline of “Shining Star.” This real-life incident prompted her to reiterate the film’s message and stress the importance of parental vigilance. She emphasized that the world has changed, and parents need to be more attentive to what their children are exposed to.
