Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, has suspended the State House of Assembly Commission for misleading him into appointing an unfit candidate over a higher-ranking official.

Otu said that the suspension is now necessary in a letter dated March 18, 2024, which was signed by Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, Secretary to the State Government, SSG, and read out on the Assembly floor by Speaker Elvert Ayambem.

The governor claimed that the House of Assembly Commission had concealed the proper seniority ranking of the staff employees who qualified for the Cross River State House of Assembly Clerk of the House post.

He admitted that his decision to choose Mr Patrick Edi over Mrs Catherine Ubi was mistaken, and that it has had ramifications.

As a result, the governor removed Mr Patrick Edi from his position as Clerk of the Assembly and appointed Catherine Ubi as substantive clerk of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
