Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo has responded sharply to a troll who criticized her for amplifying the plight of veteran actress Jumoke George, who is currently facing severe health and financial challenges.
In an interview with Biola Bayo, Jumoke George revealed that she has been homeless for 5 to 6 years, residing in her church. She also shared details of her deteriorating health, disclosing that she has been in and out of hospitals since January 2nd. Facing mounting debts, Jumoke needs urgent funds to undergo brain and heart tests but lacks the means to cover the costs.
After Biodun Okeowo reposted a video of the distressed Jumoke George, a critic accused her and other Nollywood stars of being stingy. The troll questioned why the issue was brought to the public and suggested that Biodun, who is reportedly in the U.S. with a “rich husband,” could have quietly resolved the matter without involving the public.
“Y’all Nollywood actors and actresses are stingy. Why do you have to bring this woman to the public because she’s homeless? You dey America, you have a rich husband, you could easily tell your husband to help her… But una must come and beg the public for money to help your colleagues…”
Biodun Okeowo didn’t hold back in her reply, slamming the troll for lacking empathy and understanding the urgency of public appeals for help.
“This is why some of you will never understand empathy: Your heart is locked in bitterness… If helping a senior colleague publicly can save a life, let it be! Going public is sometimes the fastest way to get urgent help.”
She further criticized the troll for focusing on irrelevant matters, such as her husband and lifestyle, instead of addressing the core issue.
“When you become a human being with sense, you’ll understand that some issues are bigger than your pocket mentality… Focus on your life, and stop analysing what’s above your emotional pay grade.”
While some may argue against airing such struggles publicly, others believe it is an effective way to rally support quickly and efficiently.
