Black Sunday: Ore on Fire as Tanker Claims 15 Fuel Scoopers’ Life

Ore, a town in Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo state was rocked by tragedy on Sunday evening when a tanker explosion killed many lives.

When the event occurred, residents in the area had gathered at the scene of a collision to collect petrol from a truck.

According to eyewitnesses, the gasoline that had spilt onto the road was ignited by a spark from a mobile phone held by one of the men participating in the fuel scooping.

The incident occurred near a gas station along Showboy Road.

According to John, an okada rider in the area who provided terrible details of the tragedy, the flames took the lives of around 15 people.

Three children and a pregnant mother were among the victims who were burnt to death, according to him.

He revealed that “After the truck crashed, people began to rush to the scene to scoop fuel. It was in the process that the truck exploded.

“Three children died, and we have counted over 15 bodies. A pregnant woman who wanted to buy fuel also died.”

Fumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state police spokeswoman, verified the event and identified the victims as fuel scoopers.
