Nigerians have urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, as an 11-day power outage in Northern Nigerian regions continues.
Kunle Olubiyo, President of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, and Eze Onyekpere, Lead Director of the Centre for Social Justice, revealed this in separate interviews with the Daily Post on Monday.
The clamor for Adelabu’s removal comes only days after Tinubu reshuffled his cabinet in response to Nigeria’s ongoing national grid outages.
Since October 21, 2024, Nigeria’s northeast and north-west areas have been under darkness.
The area, which includes at least 15 states in Nigeria, has been dealing with the crisis since rebels vandalised the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued a statement on Monday directing the Minister of Power, Adelabu, and the appropriate agency to restore power to the region, but darkness remains as of the time of reporting this article.
For his part, Adelabu predicted electricity will be restored in the region within five days.
The Nigerian Transmission Company had promised days ago that electricity would be restored temporarily.
TCN has repeatedly said that electricity will be restored temporarily via the Ugwuaji APIR 330kV Line; nonetheless, residents in the region continue to wait for power restoration while they calculate their economic losses.
