According to Fabrizio Romano, Roberto Firmino is close to joining Saudi Arabia club Al Ahli as a free agent ahead of next season.

The Saudi Arabian club has reportedly given the 31-year-old Brazilian a three-year contract and is very close to putting pen to paper.

Firmino departed Liverpool after eight years and six major trophies at the end of the 2022/23 season, with his contract expiring this month.

Roberto Firmino will now be one of the following big names to take his career to the Saudi Pro League, following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante.

Al-Ahli is one of the league’s four leading clubs controlled by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which also owns a controlling stake in Newcastle.

The Saudi club wants to announce Firmino’s arrival as soon as possible, as they have agreed to sign goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Chelsea, which could be this week.
