Boko Haram remnants responsible for Borno bombing – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has identified remnants of Boko Haram insurgents as responsible for Saturday’s suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, describing the attack as a desperate diversionary tactic by a weakened terrorist group.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the assault as a “cowardly act” targeting innocent civilians.

Expressing deep anger over the incident, Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify operations against the insurgents, urging them to “double their efforts” in completely rooting out terrorism from the country.

He extended condolences to the Borno State government and families of the victims, while ordering the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate support to survivors.

The President also addressed a separate explosion at a scrap metal factory in Kano State on Saturday, which claimed five lives and injured ten others. Tinubu emphasised the critical need for enhanced workplace safety protocols nationwide to prevent such industrial accidents.

Security analysts suggest the Konduga attack reflects Boko Haram’s diminished capacity to hold territory, forcing them to resort to sporadic attacks on soft targets.

The President’s statement reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the total eradication of terrorism, even as he acknowledged the military’s recent successes in degrading insurgent capabilities.

Tinubu’s dual response to both the terrorist attack and the industrial accident underscores the administration’s broader focus on national security and citizen welfare.

Residents of Konduga have called for increased military presence while humanitarian agencies mobilise relief materials for affected communities. The bombing incidents have reignited discussions about comprehensive security strategies to address both terrorism and public safety concerns across Nigeria.
