Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has voiced concern about the hurt to the nation if appropriate security measures are not taken to prevent the recruitment of young children into the terror organisations by Boko Haram and ISWAP.

He made these remarks on Monday during a courtesy visit in Maiduguri by the newly appointed Governing Board and Management of the North-East Development Commission.

According to Zulum:

“Maintaining security in the country entails maintaining security in the North-East. We have to stop children from being recruited into ISWAP and Boko Haram, otherwise, in the next few years Nigeria will be wiped out.”

Zulum bemoaned the lack of resettlement for the over a million Borno inhabitants who were forced to flee their homes by Boko Haram and asked the NEDC for assistance in getting back to their regular lives.

In order to relocate IDPs and shut down IDP camps, the governor also urged the NEDC to support his administration’s Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement plan.

“We want the NEDC to help us ensure the closure of all camps for the IDPs to go and earn their livelihoods themselves so that they don’t join ISWAP Boko Haram,” Zulum said.
