The governor of Borno State received medical kits for acute malnutrition and cholera from the World Health Organization (WHO) in an effort to mitigate any potential health risks arising from the recent flood disaster that devastated Maiduguri.

Dr. Walter Kazadi Molumbo, the WHO national representative, was represented by Dr. Mary Brantuo, who gave an explanation of the team’s purpose in Maiduguri: to offer condolences to the state’s administration and its citizens who have been impacted by the tragic flood.

She brought the things to Prof. Baba Mallam Gana, the state’s commissioner of health and human resources, and stated that the situation was critical and needed to be addressed right away.

“We know that no single entity can address the scale of challenges alone,” the speaker stated.

She went on to say that this was the reason the WHO, along with partners, continued to be dedicated to offering the impacted people material and technical help.

The recent flooding, according to Brantuo, has caused immense suffering for the people of Borno State. He emphasized that in addition to uprooting families, the disaster has increased the risk of fatal illnesses like cholera and deteriorated the nutritional status of kids who were already at risk of malnourishment.

She said that the donated cholera kits will aid frontline health workers in the battle against child malnutrition, providing children with a fighting chance at a healthy future, and that they would be crucial in averting and managing future outbreaks.

The commissioner thanked the WHO for the contribution in his remarks, stating that the flood had led to health issues that mostly affected women and children.
