Several Boko Haram and Islamic States of West Africa Province terrorists were killed on Monday by Nigerian Air Force’s air strikes on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

According to Gabkwet, the air attacks blasted the terrorists’ hideouts and damaged their facilities as well as the region’s critical supply centre.

He went on to say that Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu were targeted between September 27 and September 30, following confirmation of terrorist activity that posed a threat to military formations and law-abiding Nigerians living in the areas.

Terrorists were seen putting jerrycans onto two weapons vehicles hidden behind shrubbery at Tumbun Fulani.

NAF planes were then dispatched to intercept the area, which was suspected to be a key supply facility.

He said that following the attack, a Battle Damage Assessment showed that numerous terrorists had been killed and the gun trucks had been destroyed.

Similar attacks, according to him, were also carried out in Tumbun Shitu after buildings thought to be terrorist hideouts were spotted hidden away among dense vegetation.

Three weapons trucks carrying terrorists were seen entering the area, according to a NAF spokespersons, made it necessary to attack the area immediately.

He said that the air strike’s aftermath showed that the vehicles were destroyed and numerous terrorists were neutralised.

According to him:

“The determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to significantly limit the activities of terrorists in the Northeast and indeed other parts of Nigeria remains on course.

“Operational gains by the AFN are indicative of improved synergy and cooperation by all security agencies as well as the unwavering support of all Nigerians.”
