Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an attempted attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mayanti, Banki, within Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday. The insurgents had planted two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the route to obstruct troop movement.
However, a Quick Reaction Force (QRF), led by the unit commander, swiftly responded, engaging the terrorists and forcing them to retreat.
“Soldiers at the base engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to retreat.
“Although no casualties were reported among the troops.
“Shortly after, at approximately 2:03 a.m., a reinforcement team heading towards the base encountered an ambush by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents along the Banki Junction–Mayanti road,” he said.
During the encounter, two soldiers of the troops sustained injuries.
Military authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to securing the region and pledged to intensify operations against insurgent threats.
