Nigerian military forces have successfully neutralised five terrorists and rescued 38 individuals, including 17 women and 21 children, during a clearance operation in Borno State. The operation, conducted on May 8, 2025, by the 21 Special Armoured Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai, targeted known terrorist hideouts in the Shehutari and Churchur areas of Bama Local Government Area.
Collaborating with Hybrid Forces and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), the troops initiated the operation at approximately 8 a.m., advancing from their base and clearing several camps, many of which were found abandoned. During the mission, soldiers encountered fleeing insurgents and engaged them in a firefight, resulting in the elimination of five terrorists.
In a separate encounter, troops intercepted 38 individuals identified as family members of the insurgents. These individuals were taken into custody for profiling and further investigation. The successful operation marks a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace in the Northeast.
The military’s continued operations in the region underscore their commitment to combating insurgency and ensuring the safety and security of civilians. Efforts like these are part of broader initiatives aimed at stabilising affected areas and preventing the resurgence of terrorist activities.
