Tajudeen Abbas, a legislator from Zaria Federal Constituency, has been elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Members of the House elected Abbas on Tuesday using an “openly declare” ballot mechanism.
He received 353 votes, defeating fellow contestants Ahmed Wase and Sani Jaji, who each received three votes.
Following a roll call of members-elect, 359 of 360 members took part in the procedure.
