BREAKING NEWS: EFCC arrests Aisha Achimugu at Abuja airport

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested prominent Nigerian businesswoman Aisha Achimugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Her arrest follows her declaration as wanted by the EFCC in March 2025 over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

The investigation into Achimugu began in 2022, well before the current administration took office.

The EFCC clarified that the case has no ties to any political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, despite widespread media speculation.

Achimugu had previously secured a court injunction to prevent her arrest, but that protection was nullified by a Federal High Court in Abuja on February 19, 2025.

The court ruled on Aisha Achimugu’s petition that no injunction can prevent law enforcement agencies from carrying out investigations where there is a valid suspicion of wrongdoing.

The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to impartiality and professionalism in the fight against financial crimes.

It urged the public to continue supporting its efforts in ensuring accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s financial system.
