BREAKING NEWS: PDP Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to Southern Nigeria

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections to the southern region of Nigeria.

This significant decision was reached during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday.

The resolution means that only members of the party from the southern part of the country will be eligible to contest for the presidential nomination, positioning the PDP to present a southern candidate against competitors from other political parties in the upcoming election.

Party leaders emphasised that the zoning arrangement is intended to promote internal unity, ensure equitable representation, and uphold the principle of rotational presidency within the organisation.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the leadership confirmed the NEC’s resolution, stating that the presidential ticket has been exclusively zoned to the South.

This move is anticipated to influence the dynamics of the party’s internal contests as prominent southern politicians prepare to compete for the nomination.

The zoning decision is also seen as a strategic effort to strengthen the party’s appeal and cohesion ahead of the national polls.

The PDP has scheduled its elective national convention for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where additional key party positions will be contested.

This convention is expected to be a critical event for solidifying the party’s structure and unifying its members behind the newly established zoning framework as it prepares to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections.
