The Benue State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal, on Saturday, affirmed the election of All Progressives Congress Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The panel dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its gubernatorial candidate, Titus Uba, contesting the March 18 election for lack of jurisdiction.
Alia was proclaimed the victor of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, with 473,933 votes against Uba’s 223,913 votes.
Justice Ibrahim Karaye, the chairman of the three-judge panel, ruled that the tribunal lacks jurisdiction to hear the appeal since the problems stated are pre-election matters, as defined in Section 285 of the Electoral Act.
