The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned all candidates in the February 3, 2024 by-elections to avoid any actions that might lead to a breakdown in law and order.
The agency urged public pundits, social critics, and major individuals in the public realm to prioritise national peace before personal or group interests.
This comes despite the Service’s assurance that it will engage with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), other sister security and law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to guarantee a smooth election.
This was announced on Friday by Peter Afunanya, Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the DSS National Headquarters in Abuja.
Afunanya pledged that the DSS will continue to take aggressive efforts to attain the desired level of stability in the country.
He also cautioned individuals involved in or contemplating subversive activities to refrain from doing so, as the Service will not hesitate to guarantee that defaulters, no matter how high-ranking, face the full force of the law.
