Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, has ordered the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission to refund any administrative costs levied in connection with the state’s ongoing civil service recruiting operation.
Omoyele Sowore, head of the Revolution Now movement, called for a demonstration in Abeokuta, Ogun State, prompting the governor’s instruction.
Sowore chastised Governor Abiodun on Twitter, describing the price as extortion and emphasising the apparent unfairness of taxing unemployed teenagers for job applications.
On Thursday, in a statement published by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, and addressed to the chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Abiodun demanded a refund for everybody who had paid the N10,000 charge.
According to the statement, the Civil Service Commission charges the historical fees on behalf of third-party independent examiners who conduct and monitor the CBT Test and centres.
The statement went on to say that the state government, in a show of good faith and recognition of the country’s current economic situation, also considered the ultimate goal of the recruitment exercise, which is to alleviate citizens’ suffering and create jobs in the state, and ordered an immediate refund of fees paid, as well as a waiver for any new applications.
