Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Senator Kanu Agabi, has stated that Nigerians who have stolen money overseas should return it to boost the country’s economy.
Agabi thinks that some senior elites in the country have wealth stashed in various locations in other territories.
The former AGF stated this on the Commission’s podcast, Ethicspod, claiming that it is no longer relevant whether the money was earned properly or not.
He stated that many of these individuals have been discouraged from returning these cash due to a fear of retaliation.
Agabi said:
“If these funds are invested in critical sectors like education, power, or infrastructure, Nigeria would be on the path to self-reliance and gradually eliminating corruption.”
The former minister insisted that corruption cannot be abolished immediately and will take time.
According to Agabi, leadership concerns have hampered Nigeria’s battle against corruption.
