An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, the state capital, declared the state’s 33 Local Council Development Areas null and void.

The court today, ordered the LCDAs, established by the state’s immediate previous governor, the late Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, to be illegitimate and unlawful.

Justice A.O Adebusuoye’s judgement said that it was illegal for a governor to sign a legislation outside of the state, and that the LG Creation legislation 2023, signed by the late Akeredolu in Ibadan, was “unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.”

According to reports, when the LG Creation Law was ratified by the state house, the late Akeredolu signed it into law in September 2023.

Shortly after the bill was approved, the names of the caretaker chairman for the 33 LCDAs were given to the House for review and approval.

Following the screening, the court suspended the inauguration of the LCDAs’ designated caretaker chairs, barring them from taking office.
