A Federal High Court in Abuja On Monday stopped the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, ICPC, from detaining Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari until the hearing and judgment of the petition on notice.

Justice Donatus Okorowo, who issued the order in a decision on an ex-parte application brought on Yari’s behalf by Michael Aondoaaa, also barred the Department of State Services, DSS, from detaining the senator-elect.

Justice Okorowo ruled that-

“the respondents are however restrained from detaining the applicant until the return date for the order to show cause”.

In light of this, Justice Okorowo commanded the respondents (EFCC, ICPC, and DSS) to provide justification at the next adjourned date as to why the prayers requested in the motion ex-parte should not be granted.

As a result, the case was postponed until June 8 so that the respondents may provide justification.
