Times Higher Education, an academic ranking website, has released its list of the world’s best universities, with Covenant University, the University of Ibadan, the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and the University of Lagos coming out as tops in Nigeria in the 2024 rankings.
Covenant University sits at the top spot of ranked university in Nigeria, with the University of Ibadan coming in second, FUTA coming in third, the University of Lagos coming in fourth, and the University of Bayero coming in fifth.
The World University Ranking, according to Academic Ranking Web, contains 1,904 universities from 108 nations and regions.
“The Times Higher World University ranking includes 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions.
“The table is based on our new WUR 3.0 methodology, which is carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across five areas; teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.”
Other Nigerian institutions with top rankings include the University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Afe Babalola University, University of Benin, Federal Univ of Agric, Abeokuta, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lagos State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Port Harcourt.
The South West has nine of the top 15 universities, the South East has two, the South-South has two, the North West has one, and the North Central has one.
The top-ranked university in Nigeria, Covenant University, is listed in the 801–1000 range globally.
