Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to steer Nigeria through its current economic and political difficulties.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Stakeholders Meeting in Benin City, Governor Otu described Tinubu’s leadership as “magical” and commended the president’s efforts to drive national progress.
“We have come with an alabaster of endorsements, pouring it generously and unreservedly on our dear Captain of the Progressives, the Jagaban of Africa,” Otu stated, emphasising the South-South region’s support for the president. He asserted that the region was already benefiting from Tinubu’s policies and urged party members to maintain unity to sustain the momentum.
Reflecting on Cross River’s early alignment with the APC, Otu recalled that the state was among the first in the South-South to join the party, even when it seemed politically isolated. “We assuaged the loneliness with the conviction that we took an informed decision because hope was indeed on the horizon,” he said, underscoring his belief in the party’s vision.
The governor also highlighted key achievements of the Tinubu administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies, the unification of exchange rates, and Nigeria’s $13.17 billion trade surplus. These reforms, though initially challenging, were described as necessary steps toward long-term economic stability.
Governor Otu’s remarks come at a time when Nigerians are grappling with rising inflation and economic adjustments. His endorsement reinforces the APC’s efforts to rally support behind Tinubu’s policies, portraying them as transformative measures for the nation’s future. The meeting served as a platform to solidify regional backing for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
