Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former Labour Party vice presidential candidate, has launched a strong critique against Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He alleges that the government is more concerned with securing political advantages than addressing the nation’s escalating security crisis.
During an appearance on Channels Television, Datti Baba-Ahmed asserted that the administration’s focus is misplaced. He claimed that the government is actively engaged in enticing politicians from other parties to defect to the APC, creating a false sense of accomplishment while fundamental issues remain unaddressed.
He issued a grave warning about the rapidly deteriorating security situation across the country. Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the threat is encroaching on the nation’s capital, stating that insecurity is moving closer and closer to Abuja, and that overall security will continue to fail without urgent and serious intervention.
Furthermore, Baba-Ahmed directed criticism at the nation’s top leadership, accusing them of being completely out of touch with the harsh realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.
He described the president as “aloof” and criticized the vice president for being reduced to a figure who primarily attends social functions like wedding and burial ceremonies.
Datti Baba-Ahmed contrasted this with the government’s response to mass tragedies, suggesting it is easier to dispatch the vice president for a condolence visit than to effectively prevent the killings of hundreds of citizens in villages, such as those in Katsina State.
