Nigerian artist David Adeleke, a.k.a. Davido, has discussed his difficulties persuading listeners to accept his albums. After 12 years performing live, he stated he was thrilled by the excellent response to his most recent album, “Timeless.”
In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, hosted by Adesope Olajide, Davido made a statement.
He said,
“I’m happy that people accepted ‘Timeless’. They have always doubted my albums. It’s a different feeling for me because people have never accepted my album and they accepted this one. This is a fresh feeling for me; after my 12 years of killing sh*t!”
“I haven’t felt this much love before. It’s crazy bro,” the DMW boss added.
It was said that since its release, Davido’s fourth studio album, “Timeless,” has been shattering streaming records.
The 17-track album shattered the previous record for being the first African album to top the American iTunes chart.
This album achieved the biggest first-day stream in Audiomack history. It also holds the record for the highest charting album by an African artist on US Apple Music, peaking at Number 2.
Critics labelled Davido’s debut album “Omo Baba Olowo” from 2012, his sophomore album “A Good Time” from 2019, and his third studio album “A Better Time” from 2020 as “flops.”
The artist was accused of padding album sales by using “old singles,” particularly on the 2019 album “A Good Time,” which had the two-year-old tracks “If” and “Fall.”
