In a recent interview, Nigerian music star Davido shared the remarkable story of how he made approximately $600,000 from his fans on his birthday through a lighthearted social media post.
Davido recounted how he had just acquired a Cullinan car and jokingly asked his fans for money to clear the car upon its arrival in Nigeria. He explained that the cost of clearing a car in Nigeria from abroad is almost equivalent to the purchase price. To his surprise, his fans responded generously, contributing to the tune of $600,000 in total.
This isn’t the first time Davido has received significant financial support from his fans on his birthday. In 2021, he made a similar appeal on Instagram and received millions of Naira in response. He kept his fans updated on the contributions by sharing receipts on his Instagram story, even prompting his bank to reach out to him due to the large volume of transactions.
Despite the initial delay, Davido remained committed to his promise to use the donated funds to feed orphaned children across Nigeria. This year, he fulfilled his pledge, with his non-governmental organization releasing a statement detailing the distribution of funds to various orphanage homes nationwide.
One persistent Twitter user, Daniel Regha, had continuously reminded Davido of his promise over the years. While Davido didn’t respond directly to Regha’s posts, his commitment to fulfilling his promise eventually came to fruition.
