Days of Crude oil theft are numbered – CDS Musa vows

General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, warns that days of crude oil theft are numbered.

He promised that the military was making efforts to combat crude oil theft.

Speaking to reporters on Friday after briefing President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, he noted that Nigeria, one of Africa’s greatest oil producers, had struggled with serious oil theft for almost two decades.

CDS Musa also told Nigerians that the military will do its share to help the country attain its crude oil output target of 2.1 million barrels per day.

“For the criminals, those that are hell-bent on stealing our infrastructure, stealing our crude for whatever reasons, their days are numbered they should be rest assured that we are coming after them,” he vowed.

CDS Musa noted that the nation loses an estimated 200,000 barrels of oil every day to theft, which accounts for around 10% of daily output. He said that this occurs mostly through pipeline vandalism and illicit bunkering, in which oil is syphoned off and sold on the black market.
