A young man identified only as Ifeanyi has been arrested by the Police in the Enerhen Division of Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, for the alleged murder of his own father.
The suspect is accused of brutally killing his father, a man named Sunny, and then stealing a significant sum of money to finance a birthday celebration for his girlfriend.
According to reports, the horrific incident occurred on Thursday night at the family’s residence on OilField Road.
The suspect allegedly targeted his father while the man was asleep, attacking him with a weapon and inflicting severe bodily injuries, which included cutting off his hands. The stolen money was reportedly the proceeds from a recent land sale conducted by the deceased.
The attack did not immediately kill the victim, who managed to scream in pain, alerting neighbours. They rushed to the scene and found him in a critical condition, lying in a pool of his own blood.
He was quickly transported to a hospital, where the father was unfortunately confirmed dead. Following the tragedy, the community launched a search for the suspect, who had fled the area after the crime.
Ifeanyi was subsequently apprehended this past Sunday in a hotel room where he was reportedly lodging with two women. During police interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, shockingly stating that his cult group had instructed him to kill his father.
The police have since deposited the deceased’s remains in a morgue. Efforts to obtain an official confirmation from the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, were unsuccessful at the time of this report, as he did not respond to calls or a text message.
