Delta State workers booed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday for failing to provide a minimum wage policy declaration.
Workers were hoping the governor would announce a new minimum wage were disappointed when he ended his talk without mentioning it.
While the workers stopped the governor with a cry of “no, no, no, we do not agree, pay us our minimum wage,” Oborevwori claimed that the workers could not persuade him to pay it.
The 2024 May Day celebration, themed “People First,” was a carnival-style event throughout the state that included a march by the state’s numerous member unions. However, the governor’s talk in Asaba was disrupted by disruptive noise from workers who were dissatisfied that the governor had failed to make a remark on the minimum wage issue.
According to one of the union officials, they had previously addressed the issue with the governor; nevertheless, all attempts to make him understand them were unsuccessful.
“Listen to me, listen to me, calm down, calm down, you cannot cajole me,” the governor insisted.
