Nollywood actor and politician Desmond Elliott is making waves on social media for his bold fashion statement at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). The event, held on Saturday at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, saw several celebrities in attendance, but Desmond’s outfit caught the most attention.
Desmond attended the prestigious awards ceremony wearing a striking black ball gown designed by Nigerian designer Orientãl Wears. The dramatic attire quickly went viral on social media, with many comparing him to a priest or a ballerina dancer. His unique fashion choice sparked a mix of confusion and amusement from fans and followers.
Social media reactions were filled with humorous comments. Desmond’s appearance at the AMVCA follows his controversial political moves. Last year, he caused an uproar by distributing perfumes, books, and pencils to Nigerian youths during a Bye-election rally. A viral video captured his supporters fighting over the items, with Desmond justifying the gesture as a means of alleviating hardship in the country.
In 2023, while running for re-election in Surulere, Desmond donated high-capacity transformers to his constituency, aiming to improve the area’s electricity supply. Despite the controversies, he remains a two-term incumbent representative of Surulere.
