Nigerian disc jockey and billionaire heiress, DJ Cuppy, has revealed a hard-earned lesson about trust and hidden motives. Taking to Twitter, she recounted a personal experience where a supposed helper turned out to have ulterior motives.
Cuppy disclosed that a few years ago, she thought she had found a genuine supporter who offered assistance and encouragement during challenging times. However, she later discovered that the individual’s kindness came with strings attached—they were primarily interested in leveraging her relationship with her billionaire father, Femi Otedola.
I learnt the hard way that there’s no such thing as a FREE lunch,” Cuppy wrote. “A few years ago, I really thought someone was being kind. They showed up for me, offered help, and made me feel supported. I thought it came from a good place… But later, they made it clear they expected something in return—an investment or, hilariously, an introduction to my dad. I felt so stupīd for not seeing it earlier.”
Cuppy concluded her message by encouraging others to remain cautious, emphasizing that not all support stems from a genuine place.
Despite the experience, Cuppy has maintained a positive outlook. She has often expressed gratitude for her privileged lifestyle, acknowledging that what she once considered normal is something others dream of. In her words, “What felt normal to me was someone else’s prayer.”
In recent years, Cuppy has become more selective about her relationships. Last year, she announced that she was no longer seeking new friends, proudly sharing photos of her close-knit circle, which includes her mother, sisters, and boxer Anthony Joshua.
She humorously warned potential partners that they should not attempt to “unspoil” her, playfully embracing her luxurious lifestyle.
Amid personal revelations, Cuppy has also expressed pride in her Nigerian heritage. During Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration, she described her nationality as her superpower, pledging to carry a piece of Nigeria with her wherever she goes.
