The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) has cast doubt on the ability of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to secure electoral support for President Bola Tinubu from the Southeast region in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Thursday, AEISCID President, Pascal Oluchukwu, criticised Umahi’s recent remarks in which he claimed that all governors from the Southeast, regardless of political party affiliation, are committed to backing Tinubu’s re-election.
The Indigenes Diaspora group argued that Umahi does not possess the political influence or grassroots support necessary to deliver votes from the region.
He further accused the minister of ignoring the persistent feelings of political and economic marginalisation that many in the Southeast continue to experience.
The Indigenes group referenced the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), noting the widespread calls for his release and the lack of progress on the matter.
AEISCID also raised concerns about the struggles faced by students in the region during Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, pointing out a perceived lack of advocacy from Southeast leaders.
