Ebonyi: Gov Nwifuru reinstates 81 suspended government officials

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has reversed the suspension of 81 government officials, directing them to resume work immediately.

The affected officials, including commissioners, senior special assistants, special assistants, and permanent secretaries, had been suspended on July 28, 2025.

The governor’s decision was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, and distributed to journalists in Abakaliki.

While the statement did not provide specific reasons for either the initial suspension or the subsequent reinstatement, it confirmed that all suspended officials should return to their duties without delay.

The mass suspension had previously raised questions about possible administrative or disciplinary issues within the state government. However, the swift reversal suggests a resolution to whatever concerns prompted the initial action. Observers speculate that the move may have been part of broader governance reforms or internal evaluations.

Governor Nwifuru’s administration has not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the suspensions or the criteria for reinstatement. The development comes as the state government continues to implement its policies and programs, with the reinstated officials expected to resume their roles in supporting the administration’s objectives.

The quick resolution of the matter indicates a desire to maintain stability within the state’s bureaucracy while ensuring the smooth operation of government activities. Further clarifications may be provided as the reinstated officials return to their respective offices.
