Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the immediate suspension of 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries for one month without pay after they failed to attend an important government function.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the governor’s chief press secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, and shared with journalists in Abakaliki on Monday.

The suspended officials include high-ranking members of the state executive council, such as Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, Prof. Leonard Uguru, and Dr. Mathew Nwobashi, among others.

Also affected are senior aides like Hon. Bassey Chukwu, Mrs. Rose Ofoke, and Barr. Caleb Onwe, as well as permanent secretaries such as Dr. Lawrence Ezeogo, Mrs. Rose Ibe, and Barr. Emmanuel Onwe.

The governor’s decision underscores his administration’s strict stance on discipline and commitment to official duties. The suspension, which takes immediate effect, is intended to serve as a deterrent against absenteeism and negligence among public officeholders. The affected officials will forfeit their salaries during the one-month suspension period.

While no further disciplinary measures have been announced, the governor’s action sends a strong message about accountability and adherence to government protocols. The suspended officials have not yet issued a public response, but the move has sparked discussions on governance and discipline within the state’s civil service.
