Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of rainstorms wreaking havoc across the state, leaving hundreds homeless and causing significant destruction to buildings and electrical infrastructure.

Speaking on Thursday during an inspection of affected communities in Oye Local Government Area—including Oye, Ayede, and Ilupeju Ekiti—the governor lamented the devastation, which saw over 300 rooftops blown off during a storm on Tuesday evening.

Represented by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, Oyebanji reassured victims that the state government would not abandon them in their time of need. He was accompanied by officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (EKSEMA).

The governor noted that similar rainstorm disasters had recently hit several other towns, including Ipoti, Odo-Owa, Igbemo, Iyin, Ifaki, and Ilawe, highlighting the increasing recurrence of such storms in Ekiti.

Oyebanji also raised concerns about the destruction of the electricity infrastructure, which has plunged many communities into darkness, posing a severe setback to local economic activities. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting affected residents and implementing measures to mitigate future occurrences.
